Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

It ain't pretty, it just looks that way

We have been kind of wondering where Winter was this year. Not complaining , but knowing Alberta winters are often not kind , around here we have been waiting for the other shoe to drop.

And it did , not particularly cold all things considered -11C  for the day and -17C expected overnight  then by Monday back to single digits and above 0 by the end of the week, but we sure got some snow today!
Woke to about 8 inches on the ground and it has not let up yet, pretty windy by times as well so there are some areas where it has drifted quite a bit
The horses are handling it fine

 even playing a bit
Quick test! In the following 3 pics,

Who is who here , we have 3 pics , 2 are of one horse  1of the other
Which is FV Dreamboat Annie, and which is FV Catch a dream? (hint , socks and tails are the giveaway on these two ) I can tell them apart easy when I am with them  but in photos I often have to take a second look
Skeeter, less than impressed with the snow
These boys are always happy I think!
And Winston, well I KNOW he is always happy! heading off to find more snow to roll in
Stay warm and safe!

Love the photos. They do look like they are having a great time. First of the 3 was one horse and the next 2 of the other horse. What did I win? LOL Kidding!

Yah I'd say winter found you. Beautiful to look at - no fun as a human to be in it.

You got more than we did, which is just fine with me. Fat baby in the first one and Annie in the other two. Love Winston, he's a lemonade kind of guy.
That sure is a lot of blog buttons on the blog hop list at the bottom of your page.

Life is really fun in the Alberta country. Where else can you get photographic opportunities such as these?

What wonderful photos ....I have been a bit absent so just checking in to see how my far flung friends are doing .....and well it sure looks cold. Today I rode in weather so hot that arena work was out of the question ...so wine in the shade of my friends stable was the order of the day ....stay warm

Oh wow. Great photo ops though :). I guess part of me misses snow b/c we haven't gotten much of that this year, however, at the same time I'm not a huge fan of it either... LOL

You look like us over here now....knew it was coming but then I guess most people did....right.I'm like you and was wondering when the other shoe would drop.It wasn't tooooo much of a shock when we got the new snow because we have been getting it all along......but it was certainly enough. All the critters look to be taking it in stride.....love Winston.

Oh bless your heart, I know from experience it's no fun when ya have to get out and chore in it!!!

The critters seem to be havin' a blast and a half though.

Our dog puts her head down and just plows through the stuff!

God bless ya and have a marvelous week sweetie!!! :o)

It is beautiful, but it sounds colder than I want to ever deal with. Good luck to you on that one.

Winston looks to be enjoying himself though.

It looks so beautiful doesn't it? That wears off pretty quick once you start shovelling! LOL We got about the same amount here and it is going to take me a few days to get it all plowed....already feeling sore and tired. Of course, it has to be when husband is away at work. Always seems to happen that way. Sure doesn't bother the animals much. :)

Glad you managed to survive winter's (can it be?) LAST blast?!?!

I love the look on Winston's face. Pure bliss! :)

Is that 3rd picture, the one that has the stained glass cardinal in it, taken inside your home? I LOVE the windows! That picture looks like it could hang in an art gallery! The snow and ice on the windows is amazing! It looks like it's inside a cathedral or something.

I love your horses. Please don't think I don't. But I love the uniqueness in some of your other pictures. :)
