Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

Getting my Fix

Well I did not bring him home, but I finally did get to go see him !
he is doing well, after a "hillbilly moment or  several when he first got there.
New place, new handlers  , several other stallions and being stalled conspired to temporarily turn my "fire bird" into a fire breathing dragon.
But they got hims settled and back to his own sweet self and he is working well.
Getting lots of  work including turning back cattle for the cutting practices
(Fern Valley Phoenix)
Forgive the quality of photos and the general lack of them , but I did not take the camera just the cell phone .And we know how bad I am at indoor photography!

Sweet boy  and a lovely dog, but I gotta say ,

Get your own horse  pooch , this one is mine!

They are keeping him another month , trying a few things to see where his  talents best lie. Then once he comes home in the fall we will decide what the next year or so will bring .
Meanwhile it was sure nice to see my blue eyed boy! I miss him

Stay safe everyone

Glad you got to visit - he looks good, even with the cell phone pictures... Hope the training progresses well.

Hey - question for you (and anyone else who knows appys...!) - I'm going to look at a solid appy mare on the weekend (hopefully) and was wondering if you would have time to take a quick look at her bloodlines and let me know if there is anything good/bad about her breeding? I don't know much about appy bloodlines... (Her reg'd name is Spellbound Doc: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/spellbound+doc) Thanks!

I'd say he's settled if he's handling the dog against his side!

Laura, she shares some familiar pedigrrees with a few of mine. I really like the Dreamfinder line (top line) Very nice horses and beautiful temperaments, of my herd Cat , Annie and Ici share that breeding , also Comet. Also the Mighty Tim , Mighty Bright line. Dams line looks a little les familiar to me as far as Appy but sure seems bred for performance. Without a photo of the mare based on pedigree alone I would say, she is well bred and if it works she should be a really good horse, lots of ability and smart

Thanks FV! I googled Dreamfinder and was surprised that he was a well known stallion. Good to know about the temperament! I'm hoping to go see her on Sat. and get some pictures. I'll do a post on it this weekend, if I end up liking her.

Cell phone pic's or not, they are much better than nothing! He certainly looks settled and more so- enjoying having a J-O-B! It will be fun seeing him picK his job, his talents highlighted and where it all goes from here. He's a nice looking horse Sherry. I'm sure he will do you proud.
