Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

So ,about that happy post ...

Well,of course this little  darlin never fails to make me smile

The last few days I have been working  with Comet and Quinn each day, haltering , leading , today we worked on grooming and , standing tied . They were a bit rusty after a long time of just growing up, and the winter, but overall not too much drama. Both took the grooming very well, Quinn looking quite elegant afterwards and Comet? well he has a little bit of a roguish look with his ,soft, fluffy white mane.

Standing patiently, well sort of but standing and not pulling or fussing when he met the tension on the rope. Though Comet did  make an effort to untie himself
Mostly Comet seems to be wanting to please ,very good with pressure and release
and he really doesn't seem to get rattled at all
Relaxing and deciding it isn't so bad
Elegant? I see I missed a spot , but gosh he is a pretty boy all cleaned up
Quinn is a big boy , but very peaceful, overall doesn't try me much,  seems very willing to please as well
Both boys were very good today , and last evening with all the noise and drama. I am extremely pleased with them so far

We had a couple of big storms blow through , thunder ,lightening, pelting rain and hail, and then , a day late we got , my kind of Canada day light show !
I guess the song is true, "if you ever want to see a rainbow, you've got to stand a little rain
Stay safe

The boys look great! Glad to know that all your animals made it through that craziness of the weekend unscathed.
That last photo is amazing- a double rainbow and lightning; I don't think I've ever seen them both in one photo before, great capture! And, I think your boys are the pot'o'gold at the end of the rainbow for some lucky people. Seriously people, snap 'em up!

Both of the boys look awesome! Although ... Quinn is my favorite. I think he would look good in my pasture with Kahlua, don't you? ;-) I love that last photo.

I can't decide which baby I like more! When i was learning to ride my instructor had a sorrel blanket app. I was in love with him! The high socks on the other baby though I'm adoring. Is he also an appy? (i dont know if you breed any other breeds)

Wow, LOVE the last picture, how cool is that? I'd have been hiding inside with Flip, most likely;)

Those babies are precious! They look like they handled being tied there ok. We need to start working on my baby like that. In fact, we want to start showing her in halter classes this fall just to get her out and about with other horses. She'll be a cutter when it's all said and done, but we need to start her early getting her around other horses.

My, how they have grown. It must have felt good to get your hands on them and have it all go so well. I love when that happens.

That photo is just incredible!

Is it just a trick of shadows, or does Comet have eyebrows?

lol!
