Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

To show you what I see

The clallenge with blogging and  taking  pictures for me lately  has been that the  cold makes me want to get shores done and get inside FAST  so sharing my day at least in pictures would look a lot like this,
 every day !

But the last couple days have been warmer , still not  as easy to show you what I see as I would like, the camera  doesn't  have my mind and the memories associated with  each moment to show you the real beauty I see, but it does come as close as anything , so here are a few shots of "what I see"

Stay safe and warm

It had been snowing since early this morning and just stopped about an hour ago at 8 pm . I was soo pretty I take photos on really cold days through my windows as we are in a valley and on a higher ground and view nice scenery from most of our windows or like today I whipped open the door took photos as it was snowing and our Miggs was playing in the snow and that was that lol . Your photos are great I would love to see horses every day ! Your wood stove is like ours only ours is white and is in the kitchen . Have a good day !

Beautiful shots, but please pass the hot chocolate.

Is that Badger in the last pic with Arse?

Nice shots - the camera doesn't always capture the winter sunsets or the big clear sky as well as we hope. I get the wanting to be inside and warm, but there is something neat in the sky and scenery this time of year too.

Beautiful. I always wonder if that winter hair can keep them warm and cozy. Or at least I always hope it does. I'd have them in my second bedroom if I could.

Except for the snow part, which looks wicked cold, I love what you see too.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

You see such beautiful and real gifts of God! Bless you for carrying on living as human's were meant to live - on the land with animals and nature... I know it's not easy. But you and your husband do it and do it so well! And bless you for sharing. I always love coming "over" to visit with you.

Love the cold snowy pics but would rather be in the house by the fire with the doggies.

If I were you, I'd be laying in the floor with the pooches in front of the fire, but you're brave and got some pretty white snowy photos. It hasn't snowed here really in 2 years.

Wonderful winter wonderland shots Sherry! You could be doing a lot worse than this. Your winter whites are just lovely, especially love Winston...can't help but adore that dog! And Arse's dark ears - love them!! Just beautiful my friend. Vastly different than around here. We're green down below, browns in between and usually grey up above. But, maybe we're all in for an early spring this year...our groundhog did not see his shadow, and apparently his record of being correct is about 80%, so that means early spring. And...since last weekend we've been warmer than usual. My daphne's just about to burst forth in bloom!!
