Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

Hey Shirley! and another little update

I had a wonderful little surprise call tonight, an old friend we all know and adore gave me a shout to say hi and she is sop sweet! sending me a little something in the mail! Shirley of Ride a good Horse. So great to hear your voice.

And as promised here is the information on the stallion Andee is bred to

I don't know a ton about his lines, but I know good minded. He unfortunately had suffered an injury and had his eye removed about 3 days before I saw him, he came out of the stall with me on his blind side, I had been handling the mare who was in a standing heat and pretty sweaty, all this gentleman did was stand and inspect my pockets for a cookie.  Gotta love a horse who knows how to read a room!

I have been offline a little the last week or so because , well because we jumped the fence and took off for a bit. A week of sun and sea, peace and calming ! After all the mess in the world  these days and past couple of years, it was so wonderful to just be .

It was simply lovely! But it is sure good to be home as always . Back to the business of winter wrap up and waiting on spring.

Until next time , stay safe friends

That is a nice stud. It is a shame about his eye accident. With a great personality, he will carry on.

You look great Sherry!! Looks like you got some quality writing time in a colorful journal. Glad you enjoyed well deserved R & R while soaking up sunshine!

Thanks for the info! He has a lot of good bloodlines- reining and cow. That should be a nice compliment to Andee. Jayne also has Hollywood Dun It as a paternal grandsire, and she is a very nice mellow mare. You might get a nice dun foal.
Lovely sunsets.... love the Footprints in the Sand... ( I sense a poem coming from that one)
Glad you and Martin got recharged !

Gorgeous pics! A well-deserved break for you and Martin, glad you had fun!

Yes, I still have (and treasure) Johnny's baby picture, and it was of course proudly displayed along with the UID :)
What a lovely stallion!

Hollywood Dun It and Colonel Freckles are the only 2 names on his papers that I recognize. Being that close up too... Bonus!

The Colonel Freckles bred mare we had was Mondo's dam and both her and Mondo were really good minded horses. Built like tanks too! The stud sounds like 'the total package' and how can that be bad??? We're all glad to know you will be posting baby pics when the bundle of joy arrives.

Glad you and Martin got a chance to get away and thaw out. Always well deserved. Mother Nature has definitely been on crack lately and damn! Here it has been Warm enough for shorts and a tank top most of the day then next thing ya know - The temperature drops the wind is blowing hard and we're blanketing horses for the night because we're about to be freezing our arses off. Wth?
