Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

Short and Sweet

Short and sweet is what he is , and what it was
Finally ,today after having ,  not time , no motivation , poor weather etc.I decided enough already and GOT ON MY HORSE !
Today esp , was a day to do it , as we had some tears yesterday saying goodbye to a sweet horse Deb's Blue has moved on to greener pastures , I will write an honorable mention about him, soon , because that sweet beautiful boy more than deserves it ,but for now I will just say ,from me to him,"Good night Sweet Prince " (my personal pet name for him for his whole life)
Got up this morning , and even though it was going to be hot ,I threw on my jeans, thinking Deb would be over for a ride , to dry her eyes and clear her head. She was , but much later in the day,I had assumed she wasn't wanting to go ,and put on shorts. My back and well, whole darn body has been sore so I had talked myself out of it .

Mentioned it when she got here, and she said , she did want to go after all . At first I kinda though ah, next time , but Brian kindly offered to help get my gear out , so away went ! Just a short ride ,a s I am sore and Johnnie is well , um, a little plus sized these days himself ( as am I ) so start small right ?

Be gentle with me, we are just proving  that round is in fact a shape!

As always ,I am reminded how much I love this little horse of mine. In from the pasture , saddled up, put him in the round pen just to see and he looked at me as if to say "Seriously?OK I will run in a circle and show you that I know what I am doing , then can we just GO?"
Didn't need the round pen today anymore than I would need it any other time .Silly me .At least in Johnnies case , broke is broke , and he never changes .
You may notice Deb is wearing a helmet, I have been a die hard  for a long time , but here I am ending every post with stay safe , and ...
Talked about it thought about it , now it is time to just step up and do it !
Anyway , Stay safe , hope it was a great weekend all round!

Round or not, Johnnie looks more than capable of carrying you. You both look great, and you especially look like you belong up there. So relaxed, beautiful and happy. Good for you :)

Yes...be safe.

Oh, such sad news about Blue:(
I'm so sorry, Deb!
He had a wonderful life, with the great care at Fern Valley!

Thank you for that video, I so loved looking through that horse's ears with you, he looked so happy to have you up there!
Made my Monday, I mean Tuesday..

It's about time you indulged a little and got on a horse! I need to do the same, so I can't really say much, but Kat and I did get in a few good workouts. Not a total loss...

Deb- Sorry to hear about your horse. Losing them is never easy, even when it is clearly their time to go. He will be watching over you from above and waiting at the Rainbow Bridge when your day comes to join him. ((Hugs))

Looks like Johnnie walks fast. You look good up there and glad you got out even if it was short.

Sorry to hear about Debs horse, that is always sad.

Why is it that we deny ourselves something that brings such joy and comfort?! Up on a horse is the place to be!

So sorry to hear about Blue. Hugs to Deb.
A little horseback therapy is just the thing to cheer her up. And you look just great on Johnnie, you should do that more often.
