Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

Seriously Skeeter?????

Yes they are black and white and kinda cute from a distance , but how many times do we need to tell you , THEY ARE NOT FAMILY AND YOU NEED TO STAY AWAY!!!!
\
Really ,I adore Skeeter, but it says something about him, that I have on hand at all times , the ingredients for Skunk treatment . Nothing like getting ready for bed, and suddenly this whiff of...EEWWWW!!!!
Guess I should have brought him in sooner!
Seriously considered parking him in the barn for the night and dealing with it today , but ,he was soo sad . Got him all cleaned up last night . Hope he learns this time .
Otherwise , this might be where he says goodnight from .

Working on the calenders , should be done setting them up by the end of the weekend .
Stay safe everyone!

Ugh. That's the one saving grace of an early snowstorm. At least I don't have to bathe anymore skunk-sprayed dogs until next summer. Although, I did find a place where an animal burrowed under the gate to the horse paddock. I'm hoping it was just a bunny.

Maybe he likes the smell? Or the attention during the bath? *shrugs* You just never know with some dogs...

Either way it made for a good blog post, right? WIN!

I do admit they are black & white, AND cute FROM A DISTANCE! No advice regarding how to keep them from visiting. Sorry. I do keep Remingtons Skunk Away on hand...I get it at Fleet Farm in the hunting dog section.

My Doberman cross got skunked in the face once and boy was it awful! His eyes were tearing and bloodshot and boy, did he smell! Poor dumb dog!! We bathed and bathed him in tomato juice (all we had) and then Skunk Off. It took a long time to wear off.

Baby skunks are so very cute, and talkative li'l rascals. Maybe they were sweet-talking Skeeter!

Seriously...I NEVER get tired of that last picture. Skeeter and my Ute look like twins and I can totally see Ute doing the same thing as Skeeter in that pic. LOL.

Aw, they're his buddies. I have a cat that plays with skunks but they don't spray him! Good luck with that:)
