Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

Repost: messin with the music

Re posting this from some of the lost posts of the last year . Had to make a few changes to the  body  to reflect the changing faces here at Fern Valley .I will have a new post soon with hopefully some current pictures , we have huge fat snowflakes falling tonight and the landscape will be much prettier  soon .
From Johnnie to Santa
Jolly old Saint Nicholas,Lean your ear this way!
Don't you tell a single soul
What I'm going to say:
Christmas Eve is coming soon;
Now, you dear old man
Whisper what you'll bring to me;
Tell me if you can.

When the clock is striking twelve,
When I'm fast asleep
through the pastures cold and white,
With your pack you'll creep
All the horses you will find
Standing in a pen
I will be the shortest one,Somewhere near the end

Wilder wants a carrot please
Peps, She wants some oats
Cactus ,some pretty girls, with some spotted coats
Quinn wants a pail of crunch
 Stryker ,just wants hay

Annie and ,Andy , say ,they just want to play
Ritchie, Ici,Jazzy,are happy as they are,
Digger wants his DVM
Comet  wants to be a star

Now I think ,I leave to you
What to give the rest
And for me, dear Santa Claus;
mums love is the best .

 Speaking of changes , The Morgan team has found a new home , with a couple who drive heavy horses and are looking to do some light driving competitions as well . Hope I will be able to follow up on them now and then .It is always nice to be able to do that . I am just happy that this handsome pair has found a home where they will be used and cared for .

Busy days here, spent much of today outside  getting the horses caught up with feed and bedding , and then spent the afternoon baking cookies . Whipped shortbread, is done, next will be my fancy pastry cookies (its what I call them , easiest cookies in the world to make , but they are pretty and look complicated )

Meanwhile , stay safe and warm everyone!

LOL! That was great, Fern! Love the new header picture, "my" Johnnie is on the left;) He may be short, but he sure is sweet:)

Glad the blacks have found a home where they can get some work done!

I don't dare try your cookie recipe, for two main reasons.
1) I don't have a floor in the kitchen, STILL.
2) I have to save myself for a chocolate overload - it's my Christmas tradition.

The pic of the horses in the snow almost makes me wish we had lots of snow.
Almost.
