Welcome to Fern Valley

Here in central Alberta prime farm country,my husband Martin and I work together raising beef cattle and Appaloosa horses. Fern valley appaloosas have long been known for their quality of temperament conformation and color.I have recently rediscovered a love of writing and have published 2 collections of poetry. "Telling Tails" and Tails Trails and Campfire stories" . I look forward to a future spreading my wings as an author and as a horse woman .

Well I said "I" had no foals coming this year

But Cactus did! lol Well he sired one anyway.I made a deal last year with the folks at the Rusty Horseshoe, a breeding to one of their mare in exchange for some board there over the winter. Well I really enjoyed my part of the bargain, so much so that I will be going back next winter. Now it is their turn. I am thinking they got a pretty sweet deal too!

 Welcome Cactus Cut Pete!

They have sent me a second mare (and oops I forgot to get pics of her, but suffice to say ,if this is what we get from a grey QH mare , the next years crop is looking pretty exciting!

I have plans to breed 3 mare this year, Ici (momma to Whoa Dammit) , Annie  full sister to Ici, and also Lacey then new mare , which way I go with each ,either to Cactus or Phoenix is yet to be determined, but the no foal famine here at Fern Valley will hopefully be over in 2016.I enjoyed my break but its time to get back at it .
The rest are doing well, most on pasture and getting slicked up with summer grass.
And little Henry is a growing concern!

We processed the calves the last time Martin was home and they are out to pasture, just the tail enders still home with the bull.We are down to one left to calve.
Our pasture renters have arrived with 250 head of yearlings and that about brings you up to date.
I quite honestly cannot tell you what else I have been doing lately , but I have sure been busy doing it!
I guess that is just the way of things .
Hope everyone is well and as always ,stay safe!

That Henry...He is just too much. LOL. What a cutie!! That foal is pretty dang cute too. I'm curious though, wouldn't it be undesirable for an Appaloosa to potentially gray out?

What a cutie! Both the foal and Henry. Sounds like life as usual- pulling you here, there and everywhere. One of these days maybe you'll slow down a little. Maybe?
